NEW WORLD ADVERTISING – GREATER IMPACT, LOWER COST
How the world of advertising has had to adapt only to find a far greater impact at a far lesser price.
Up until brands discovered the power of the influencer, they used advertising agencies to create, what we now call content, to reach the masses via extremely expensive traditional methods.
This type of advertising was not only expensive but it didn’t include many, if any, repeats. It also had a limited lifespan, as costly ads in daily publications lasted a mere 24 hours. The bi-monthly glossies had a full two weeks before they hit the trash can. But, in 2026, we have probably forgotten all about those extortionate costs that went with a hopeful 2-week life on the coffee table back then in 2006.
Then there were the 12 a year titles such as GQ, Harper’s Bazaar, and so on. Condé Nast flagship titles could easily command a figure, for a full colour, inside, right hand page, as much as $80,000 to $145,000. These Rate Card costs meant that small or new brands were left out in the cold.
By stark contrast, the critical advertising realities in 2026 has outstripped those days altogether as brands small, medium and large can afford to join in the all effective, cost-efficient influencer marketing. An Instagrammer today with 100,000 followers, could reasonably charge a medium sized brand $500-$2,500 for 1 post and 2 stories of content, depending on engagement and niche. The same but with 1m followers and the charge is between $6,000 – $30,000 depending on engagement and niche.
Add in the ‘YouTube Effect’ and a medium sized brand could expect to pay a YouTuber with 1 million subscribers, between $5,000 and $25,000 for a 60 second mid-roll video integration and a mention/link in its description.
As has been seen for the past 20 years, albeit that its early roots may have begun gaining traction through experimental means since 2010, digital influencer advertising has literally propelled industry success into another stratosphere – with its most special value of being able to directly reach its target audience.
End.
